In May we communicated with Members regarding a proposal to establish a Charitable Trust with the purpose of funding health research, promotion and education. We followed that up with further communications in July, and a series of town-hall style meetings in main centres throughout New Zealand.
The proposal has met with overwhelming support from Members. We agree that it is the right approach for MAS to work with its Members making a difference towards the health and wellbeing of all New Zealanders.
Establishing a charity allows MAS to make the money otherwise payable in income tax available to distribute to charitable causes through an independent Charitable Trust. The Charitable Trust will be governed and operate separately from MAS' core business, so that MAS continue providing outstanding products and services to Members.
Full members have the opportunity to vote on this proposal at the 2018 AGM. This is a significant moment in MAS’ history, so please take the time to find out more about the Charitable Proposal.
