MAS Talks: Speaker FAQ's
How do I suggest a speaker?
Use our speaker recommendation form, and fill in as much information as you can. This form goes directly to our speaker selection team.
Can I suggest someone I don't know personally? You ask for their email address, and I don't know it.
Please do! Just let us know how you've heard about this person, and why you think they should speak at MAS Talks.
Can I suggest a colleague or friend?
Can I suggest myself as a speaker?
Do you have to be a MAS Member?
No, you don’t have to be a MAS Member but Members will be given first consideration. If you know someone that you think will give an outstanding MAS Talk, then we definitely want to know about them!
Will it help if I submit multiple nominations, or have my friends nominate me several times?
No. It really only takes one suggestion.
Is there a deadline for suggesting a speaker?
We accept nominations all the time. It's best to get your suggestions to us as early as possible, so we can research them carefully and make the best decision on the speaker roster.
I want to speak at MAS Talks, but my usual talk runs 50 minutes. Can I get a longer slot?
We strictly enforce the clock for all speakers. MAS Talks is the place to condense your ideas into a compelling 18 minute talk that communicates your best ideas. A carefully prepared presentation of this length can have astonishing impact.
Do you have questions and answers?
After all three speakers have delivered their talk; we invite everyone back to the stage and give the MAS audience the opportunity to ask questions. These sessions are recorded and shared with the wider community and we’ve found these to be just as interesting as the talks. Be prepared for some challenging questions – there’ll be some smart cookies out there!
Do you pay speakers?
MAS will pay all successful speakers the same set speaker fee. The set fee is:
- $800 + gst for a talk in your hometown where you don’t need to travel.
- $1000 + gst for an out-of-town talk where you have to stay overnight.
- We’ll also cover travel costs and provide excellent hotel accommodation when you’re required to travel.
An additional benefit of speaking at MAS Talks is that your presentation will be recorded and made available at mas.co.nz for all MAS Members to enjoy.
