From 30 June 2021, MAS will be the single point of contact for its Members when they need to lodge house or land claims following a natural disaster.
Previously, Members had to lodge two claims for natural disaster damage. One was lodged with EQC and covered damage up to a certain value, and the other was lodged with MAS to cover the remainder of the damage.
Under the new process, MAS will be the single point of contact for Members whose property is damaged in a natural disaster after 30 June 2021. We will assess, manage, and settle the entire claim, including the EQCover portion of a claim, which will make things simpler and more efficient for Members.
This new process is the result of a partnership between EQC and the New Zealand insurance industry, and aims to make things easier for homeowners during what can be a very stressful time.
As well as managing the entire claim from lodgement to settlement, MAS and the other insurers involved in the partnership will share data with EQC about where insured homes are located, so EQC can better model New Zealand’s exposure to – and understanding of – natural hazard risks.
If you need to lodge a claim, you can do so via our website or by calling 0800 800 627.
