MAS's Annual General Meeting for 2023 was held online on 30 August.
We thank all those Members who attended the meeting, and who cast votes on the various resolutions. We appreciate the views of our Members and we are grateful to them for setting aside the time to contribute to the future of our mutual.
The meeting opened with Brett Sutton, MAS Chair taking Members through the Annual Report and offering his thoughts on some of the highlights of the 2022-23 Financial Year, and what MAS will focus on in the year ahead.
The meeting then heard from Jenny Gill, Chair of the MAS Foundation, who reported on the MAS Foundation's activities over the past year, including how Te Tiriti o Waitangi has been a cornerstone of its approach to grant making and organisational structure.
Brett acknowledged and thanked Martin Stokes who retired as CEO in March this year after a 32-year tenure at MAS, as well as Dr Harley Aish and Lindsay Knowles who both retire from the MAS Board after 9 years of service.
MAS CEO Jason McCracken, spoke about what he has heard from MAS Members since joining in March 2023. He discussed some of the challenges facing MAS such as the market moving to risk-based pricing and the impacts of climate change on general insurance. Jason emphasised MAS is well capitalised and capable to respond to such challenges.
