What annual statements will I receive?

This will depend on what product you have with us:

MAS KiwiSaver Scheme
  • Member Annual Statement
  • Tax Certificate
MAS Retirement Savings Scheme
  • Member Annual Statement
  • Tax Certificate
MAS Investment Funds
  • Tax Certificate

Note investors in MAS Investment Funds will also receive an Investment Summary Statement every 6 months.

Account details and investment dashboard

Why don't my personal details reflect any recent changes?

The annual statements (Member Annual Statement and/or Tax Certificate) are based on data available as of 31 March 2024. If you have updated your personal details since 31 March 2024, changes will appear in next year's annual statements. 

You can review and check your current account details by using the MAS Investor Portal where most investors can also make changes (including your PIR). If you have not yet registered for the MAS Investor Portal, please click the button below and select ‘Member Registration’ and follow the simple instructions. Investors with an entity account (such as a trust or company) in MAS Investment Funds will need to call us to update their account details.

Why are my reported fund holdings and/or future investment strategy different to my current fund holdings and/or investment strategy?

The annual statements are based on data held by the Administration Manager, Link Market Services, as at 31 March 2024. If you told us to change your fund holdings and/or investment strategy after 31 March 2024, your annual statements will not reflect the changes.

Projected retirement balance and weekly income

A projected retirement balance and weekly income is provided in the Member Annual Statement for the MAS KiwiSaver Scheme and MAS Retirement Savings Scheme.

Where can I find out more information about how the projections are calculated?

Why don't I have a projected retirement balance and weekly income on my statement?

Your statement will not include a projection if:

  • you were not a member of the MAS KiwiSaver Scheme or MAS Retirement Savings Scheme for the whole year (1 April 2023 to 31 March 2024)
  • you were under 18 years old at 31 March 2024
  • you were 65 years or older at 31 March 2024. 

Why is my projected weekly income nil?

Weekly income is rounded to the nearest $10. If your projected balance is projected to be less than $5, it is rounded down to nil. 

Why is my projected retirement balance nil?

Projected retirement balances are rounded to the nearest $1,000. If your projected balance is less than $500, it is rounded to nil. 

Tax

Why am I paying tax when my investment return was negative?

Tax is payable on your taxable investment income, which may be calculated differently to your investment returns. This can mean that individuals with a negative investment return for the previous financial year may still have to pay tax.

Contributions

Why are there no contributions or fewer contributions than I expected to receive into my MAS Retirement Savings Scheme account?

If you began working for a different DHB during the year, you need to advise your new employer to start contributions. Check with your new employer whether they have made this change. 

Why was my KiwiSaver government contribution less than $521.34 when my contributions are shown as more than $1,042.86?

Contributions shown on your annual statement relate to the tax year ended 31 March 2024. However, the Government contribution shown on the statement is for the period ended 30 June 2023 which was calculated based on contributions received for the period 1 July 2022 to 30 June 2023.

Why do I have negative KiwiSaver contributions or small withdrawals that I did not make?

Inland Revenue can recover contributions made in error to your KiwiSaver account, such as overpayments by your employer. This occurs infrequently and the amounts are generally small. If you have not made contributions during the year and Inland Revenue recovers contributions from the previous financial year, your contributions may even negative.
